It will be transported from the manufacturer to the supplier, and probably spend some time in storage before being used for the first time. So the maximum time you could use a hard hat would be from the time you purchase it, up to the expiry date or until it is damaged, whichever comes sooner. For example, if a hard hat has a 5-year expiry date from the manufacturer, but it's in storage for the first 6 months, then you will have a maximum of 4.5 years of use.
